Technical Sales – Aerospace & Defence

I’m pleased to share that we are now leading a retained search project for an Area Sales Manager / Technical Sales Manager on behalf of a long-established European technology business supplying high-reliability engineered components and sub assemblies into defence and aerospace platforms.

This is a high-autonomy, technical/business development role — ideally suited to commercially minded engineers or technical sales professionals who enjoy:

🔹 Selling complex, engineered technology rather than catalogue products
🔹 Engaging with engineering teams, programme managers & procurement
🔹 Working on long sales cycles and early design-stage influence
🔹 Building deep, trusted customer relationships rather than chasing price-driven deals

The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding business with major aerospace & defence OEMs and system integrators across the UK (primary) and Northern Europe (secondary), supported by strong technical expertise, product specialists and European leadership.

💼 What makes this opportunity stand out

  • Freedom to operate with genuine ownership of the market
  • Selling bespoke, application-specific solutions — not competing on price
  • A company that makes quick decisions and supports its people properly
  • Excellent onboarding and technical training across Europe
  • A realistic first-year success metric based on pipeline and activity, not unrealistic revenue targets

This will suit someone with experience in technical or engineered solution sales — ideally within defence, aerospace, rugged electronics, RF/microwave, opto-electronics, sensors or a closely related sector.

Sales Engineer – Capital Equipment

Now Hiring: Sales Engineer – Packaging Machinery (Greater Manchester / North West)

I am currently partnering with a respected manufacturer of packaging machinery and capital equipment to appoint a Sales Engineer to support their continued growth across the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially driven sales professional with technical credibility who enjoys selling engineered solutions that genuinely improve production performance and automation efficiency.

🔍 About the Role

The Sales Engineer will take ownership of UK sales activity, managing both new business development and key account growth. You’ll be selling a highly regarded range of packaging machinery into multiple market sectors, backed by a strong engineering and service team.

Although the role involves regular customer visits across the UK, it is important that the successful candidate lives within approximately 45 minutes of the Manchester head office to enable regular time on-site for team collaboration, training, and project discussions.

This combination of field-based autonomy and office-based teamwork makes this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys the variety of both.

🧩 Ideal Background

We are keen to speak with candidates who have experience selling capital equipment into manufacturing environments. Sector experience such as the following is highly valuable:

  • Food & Beverage
  • Pharmaceutical / Life Sciences
  • FMCG
  • Industrial Manufacturing
  • Chemical / Personal Care / Household Products

Relevant job titles may include:

  • Sales Engineer
  • Business Development Manager
  • Technical Sales Representative
  • Area Sales Manager
  • Technical Account Manager

If you understand how engineered machinery solves real production challenges — and you enjoy helping customers identify the right solution — you’ll be a strong fit.

💼 Package & Benefits

  • £50,000 – £60,000 basic salary
  • Performance-related attractive commission
  • Car allowance or company car
  • Supportive onboarding and product training
  • Genuine long-term career prospects with a growing business

🚀 Why This Role Stands Out

  • High-quality, well-respected machinery — not a “sell at any cost” environment
  • Support from a proven engineering and aftersales team
  • Stable customer base with strong repeat business
  • Visible role where you’ll have a voice in commercial strategy
  • A company culture that values ideas, initiative, and contribution

If you’re a Sales Engineer who enjoys combining field sales with regular office collaboration, and you live within commuting distance of Manchester, we’d love to hear from you.

Driving Operational Excellence in UK Manufacturing

The UK’s manufacturing and fabrication sector is evolving rapidly. With increasing demand for high-quality products, tighter project delivery schedules, and a greater emphasis on safety and sustainability, the role of operations leadership has never been more critical.

One of the most exciting opportunities in this space is the chance to step into a senior operations role at a major port-based manufacturing facility in the South East of England. This is a site that plays a pivotal role in supporting the construction and infrastructure supply chain — producing, processing, and delivering the essential building materials that keep projects moving.

Why This Role Matters

Operations managers in heavy manufacturing environments sit at the heart of the action. They’re the link between planning and delivery, ensuring that customer requirements are translated into efficient, safe, and reliable production. They oversee skilled teams, coordinate with logistics, and make sure that the factory floor runs at peak performance.

In fast-paced, large-scale facilities, the challenges are diverse:

  • Balancing production schedules with the need for flexibility.
  • Ensuring preventative maintenance keeps equipment running smoothly.
  • Managing stock, materials, and transport in a just-in-time environment.
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives — from lean manufacturing practices to the adoption of digital and automated systems.

It’s a role that demands strong leadership, clear communication, and an eye for detail. But for the right person, it also offers the chance to make a measurable difference every single day.

Skills That Make the Difference

Success in this kind of environment usually comes from a blend of technical expertise and people leadership. Candidates with a background in manufacturing, fabrication, engineering, or heavy industry often bring the right skill set:

  • A proven ability to lead and motivate production teams.
  • A track record of delivering efficiency improvements and cost savings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to keep production flowing.
  • The ability to work cross-functionally with design, planning, sales, and logistics.

With major investment across the South East in both infrastructure and construction supply chains, demand for these skills is only set to grow.

The Bigger Picture

Manufacturing facilities that operate at scale don’t just produce materials — they keep supply chains moving. Every improvement in uptime, safety, and efficiency directly impacts the projects those materials support. Whether it’s delivering on time for a major infrastructure project or introducing automation to reduce waste, operations leaders play a critical role in shaping both the performance of the facility and the success of the wider industry.

Ready for Your Next Step?

If you’re an experienced production or operations leader with a background in manufacturing, fabrication, or heavy industry, and you’re looking for your next challenge in the South East, we’d love to hear from you.

Completed Assignment – Industrial Capital Equipment

Another fine example of how recruitment can run smoothly if you choose our Executive Search service. This particular project was quickly completed successfully within just a few weeks of starting the assignment. Approached at the start of December 2022 by a leader in Specialist Capital Equipment for the Waste Industry to find them a UK & Ireland Sales Manager, by the middle of December we had four excellent candidates interviewed and second interviews set up for the Start of January 2023. the company made an offer to their preferred choice who was able to start at the end of January. So yet another company benefitted from the fact that Aarca is boutique style and only works on a small number of projects (usually one) at a time until completion – that dedicated focus we provide really gets the best result in a prompt manner.

Sometimes small is beautiful, so instead of being just one in a pool of gradually increasing hundreds of clients with a large agency, come and speak to us, where you are always our top priority.

2. As a headhunter I can identify off-market candidates. Why restrict yourself to candidates that are sending out CVs to a multitude of jobs when the real gems will only be aware of your opportunity if we approach them directly for you.

3. I only work with one or two clients at any one time. Due to the fact we are boutique in our approach and not a larger agency (nearly all of which are purely targeted at getting numbers of new vacancies signed up), your project stays as our top priority through to completion.
